Summary
The author, Csaba Némedi, who can look back on many years of experience in surgical anaesthesia nursing, discusses the necessary further development and professionalisation of this internationally heterogeneous occupational field. Among other things, his article focuses on the competence framework and the status of Austrian anaesthesia care, as well as the importance of evidence-based, internationally comparable training models. His future-oriented solutions are not only relevant for anaesthesia care, but are also transferable to other areas of health care and nursing. The process of professionalising health care and nursing in Austria has always been regressive.
