Summary
Digitalization and economic pressure pose fundamental challenges for journalism. Against this backdrop, Michael Sengl's dissertation provides a first comprehensive insight into German journalists’ working conditions. Based on interviews with 19 editorial managers and a survey of 232 journalists, the author connects editorial convergence and working conditions. He reveals the impact of changing structures, roles, and workflow on editorial performance: The author argues that carefully considering journalists’ working conditions is a key factor for quality and success in journalism.
