Summary

Die Arbeit untersucht das Nachhaltigkeitsengagement mittelständischer Unternehmen in Baden-Württemberg im Sinne einer Berücksichtigung ökologischer, sozialer und wirtschaftlicher Aspekte in der Unternehmenssteuerung.

Eine explorative Feldstudie unter geschäftsführenden Gesellschaftern und Geschäftsführern erlaubt einen detaillierten Einblick in die Motivation, Praktiken und Wertvorstellung der Untersuchungsteilnehmer. Hierfür wurden semi-strukturierte Interviews mit 30 Teilnehmern geführt und anschließend mittels thematischer Codierung ausgewertet.

Die Ergebnisse der Untersuchung weisen darauf hin, dass das Nachhaltigkeits-Engagement zwischen den Unternehmen stark variiert. Weit verbreitet unter den Teilnehmern ist jedoch eine langfristige Sichtweise in Verbindung mit einer konkreten Wertvorstellung, die an das Konzept des ehrbaren Kaufmannes anknüpft. Großunternehmen werden zumeist mit einer kurzfristigen, rein profitorientierten Verhaltensweise in Verbindung gebracht.
