Summary

Successful identity development, which should already begin during training, increases satisfaction and motivation in everyday working life and can contribute to greater professional loyalty in the long term. Julia Holbach investigates the extent to which professional identity and commitment develop during training as a nurse by conducting guided interviews with generalist nursing trainees. The analysis of the interviews shows how individual the trainees' initial situations and developmental trajectories are and that the working and learning conditions play a central role in the development of identity.
