The research field of occupational and industrial sociology has changed constantly and tremendously. Although work is still an important part of the majority of people’s lives and a key category when analysing social processes, its content, forms of organisation, demands and technological foundations have undergone as much substantial change as the social, hierarchical and political relationships in which it is embedded, and the expectations, interests and qualifications of the people who carry it out. This updated and expanded edition of the “Lexikon der Arbeits- und Industriesoziologie” (“Lexicon of Occupational and Industrial Sociology”) has three aims: to do justice to its subject’s dynamics, to document the wealth of knowledge on this subject and to attempt to meet its readers’ varying needs.
