Was bedeutet es heute, ein guter christlicher Bürger/eine gute christliche Bürgerin zu sein? Dieses Buch bietet eine eingehende Untersuchung von Augustins Ethik der Bürgerschaft anhand seiner theologischen Schriften, Briefe und Predigten. Es führt in die augustinische Necessitas Caritatis (Pflicht der Liebe) ein, identifiziert die unverhandelbaren Elemente christlicher Bürgeridentität und verdeutlicht die Verantwortung der Gläubigen in pluralistischen Gesellschaften. Mit besonderem Fokus auf die europäische Identität erläutert es die entscheidende Rolle augustinischer Bürger bei der aktiven Gestaltung der Zukunft eines wahrhaft pluralistischen Europas.
