Zusammenfassung

Machen Gewaltdarstellungen in den Medien Menschen aggressiv? Sind Ego Shooter (mit)verantwortlich für Amok-Taten? Fragen wie diese werden in der Öffentlichkeit oft sehr emotional diskutiert. Was aber haben Jahrzehnte intensiver Forschung an Erkenntnissen erbracht? Dieser Band liefert eine übersichtliche und kritische Bilanz des aktuellen Forschungsstandes. Auf Basis theoretischer Überlegungen zu den Wirkungsmechanismen von Mediengewalt werden konkrete empirische Befunde vorgestellt und diskutiert. Ein besonderer Schwerpunkt liegt auf Faktoren, die das Risiko negativer Auswirkungen von Mediengewalt beeinflussen können (Eigenschaften des Rezipienten, der Gewaltdarstellung, des Mediums und der Rezeptionssituation). Abschließend bietet das Buch einen Einblick in teils ideologisch geprägte und zeitweise polemisch geführte Forschungsdebatten. Es eignet sich ebenso als Lehrbuch für Studierende wie als Lektüre für mit medienpädagogischen Fragen befasste Praktiker und andere Interessierte.
