Zusammenfassung

Wann immer die Auswirkungen der Rechte des Geistigen Eigentums, besonders die der Patente, auf moderne Gesellschaften diskutiert werden, stehen im Mittelpunkt der Diskussion zwei Themen: Gesundheit und Medikamente. Überraschenderweise wird dabei ein anderer, ebenso gesundheitsrelevanter Aspekt des Patentschutzes nicht einmal berührt, nämlich die durch das Internationale Abkommen über handelsbezogene Aspekte der Rechte des Geistigen Eigentums (TRIPs) eingeführte generelle Verpflichtung, erstmals auch Erfindungen im Bereich der Nahrungsmittel mit Patenten zu schützen. Diese Arbeit untersucht nun die Rolle und Bedeutung von Patenten in der Nahrungsmittelindustrie als einem ebenso gesundheitsrelevanten Bereich.
