Zusammenfassung
Kann Technik allein alle Umweltprobleme lösen, oder braucht es auch „weniger“ Konsum? Diese Frage wird schon lange in den Umweltwissenschaften diskutiert und kann mit Blick auf zumindest einige Umweltprobleme heute mit „Ja“ beantwortet werden. Es reicht jedoch nicht, wenn wenige Einzelne freiwillig ihren Verbrauch an umweltrelevanten Gütern einschränken („Suffizienz“), um insgesamt nachhaltige Konsummuster zu erreichen. Suffizienz muss auch auf politischer Ebene zum Thema werden. Es bestehen jedoch mit Blick auf mögliche Freiheitseinschränkungen Bedenken, ob sich eine Verringerung des Konsums in einem liberalen Staat politisch umsetzen lässt. Dieses Buch zeigt die Notwendigkeit und Wege der Rechtfertigung einer Politik der Suffizienz in liberaldemokratischen, wohlhabenden Staaten aus politisch-philosophischer Sicht auf. Weiterhin werden Umsetzungsmöglichkeiten sowie deren Grenzen diskutiert. Am Ende steht der Vorschlag einer Konzeption für eine Politik der Suffizienz.
