Zusammenfassung

Mit zunehmender Heterogenität der EU Mitgliedstaaten ist das Konzept der differenzierten Integration Realität geworden. Besonders in solchen EU Politikbereichen, die Kernkompetenzen eines souveränen Nationalstaates betreffen – wie im Falle des Raums der Freiheit, der Sicherheit und des Rechts – gibt es eine Vielzahl an flexibler und differenzierter Integrationsformen. Das vorliegende Buch treibt den neuen Forschungstrend grundlegend voran, der Differenzierung als EU-Integrationsrealität akzeptiert.Eine detaillierte Rechtsanalyse gräbt den Begriff der Differenzierung aus der semantischen Lawine, die dieses Forschungsgebiet prägt. Eine gründliche Analyse der Implementierung der britischen, irischen und dänischen Opt-outs im RFSR generiert Einsichten in die politikbezogenen und strukturellen Integrationsmuster die aus dem Zusammenspiel aus Institutionalisierung und Implementierung von Opt-outs hervorgehen. Hierfür wird der analytische Rahmen der „paths of differentiated integration at work“ gebildet, der den historischen Institutionalismus und eine erweiterte Version der Differenzierungstheorie erkenntnisgewinnend miteinander verbindet. Das Buch nimmt den Leser ebenfalls mit auf eine Entdeckungsreise der verschiedenen Facetten und Besonderheiten des RFSR.
