This interdisciplinary book series offers Europe-oriented topics, which focus on advancements and shifts in political, institutional and societal relations. The series is published under the aegis of the Willy Brandt Centre for German and European Studies at the Wroclaw University. The spectrum of topics covered by the series ranges from the contemporary challenges to EU governance, foreign policy of European states to citizenship practices in Germany and other European countries.

The series ‘SI Discourses | Society—Church—Religion’ brings contributions from the area at which theology and the social sciences, that is, the Church, social policy and the public sphere, overlap into academic and public discourse. The contributions stem from conferences organised by the Social Science Institute of the Protestant Church in Germany (SI) and other contexts of SI research. Empirical findings and conceptual considerations from the sociology of religion, theology, ethics and economics are presented and controversially discussed. The series focuses on questions of religious communication and practice in contemporary society, social cohesion and social balance, civic engagement and the digital transformation of the economy and society.

This series publishes works that open up a social pedagogical perspective on democracy education in different fields of social work. With reference to Oskar Negt's (2016) insight that democracy is the only politically constituted social order that needs to be learned, there is a need to reflect on the forms of democracy education and democracy practice. The focus is therefore on theoretical and conceptual reflections on participatory democracy, political democratic education, and participatory research that discusses sustainable social inclusion.

Scientifically profound and written in understandable language, the volumes of this series introduce the central research areas, theories and methods used in political science and convey the knowledge that is fundamental for prospective academics. The consistent problem orientation and the didactic preparation of the individual chapters facilitate access to the series’s specialist content. This series is ideally suited for exam preparation, e.g. through summaries, questions that test knowledge and understanding, as well as charts and thematic cross-references.

"Short Cuts" close the gap between the classical essay in a journal and the monograph. They provide a forum for short, stimulating opinions that may well be at odds with prevailing opinion. The focus will be on the foundations of law.

Academic research into borders is currently facing great challenges, which can be traced back to both developments in society and the subject of border studies itself, as boundaries are no longer found at the places where borderlines have been drawn and they increasingly demand multidimensional forms of access. This series of publications is expressly aimed at researchers on this subject from the humanities, cultural studies and the social sciences, who want to publish empirical (qualitative and quantitative) studies, textual analyses and theoretical works from a diachronic and/or a synchronic perspective. Its aim is to raise awareness of a pool of cultural studies analyses and promote discussion and the exchange of ideas about them.

The „Contributions to Comparative and International Public Law“ discuss topics of contemporary public international law, European Union law and comparative public law. They aim to contribute to a better understanding of the basic structures and current evolutions in international, supranational and domestic public law at a time of their growing interdependence and interaction. Future volumes in the series will deal with the extraterritorial application of the UN Covenant on Social and Economic Rights, the obligations of States and International Financial Institutions to protect social and economic rights in the Sovereign Debt Crisis and the comparative law of independent regulatory agencies.

This series of publications deals with Vietnam’s politics, society, economy and foreign relations. It is aimed at a broad readership from the fields of science, business and politics, and, in general, at readers interested in Vietnam and its neighbouring countries. The studies in the series aim to inform its readership, especially its Western audience, objectively and competently about today’s Vietnam and its role in an increasingly important region of the world: South East Asia and East Asia. As Vietnam is a dynamic state, its internal development and foreign relations are undergoing considerable change.
