Summary
Self-employed work t is changing – and with it, the relationship between work and society. This special issue analyzes its social differentiation, political embeddedness, and cultural interpretations. It shows that self-employed work is not a marginal phenomenon but a central part of contemporary society. Through three perspectives – dissemination, dissonances, and cultural depictions – the volume reassesses the status of self-employed work and situates it within current societal transformations. In doing so, it offers a vital contribution to the sociological analysis of modern work conditions.
