Summary

Sahra Wagenknecht’s late political ambitions sparked a public debate in Germany. Concerns were stressed regarding the potential collaboration of leftists and rightists typically referred to as Querfront. However, as a glance at history reveals, such cooperation of conflicting political forces regularly failed in practice. The author aimed at unravelling the understudied causes of this failure. Based on theoretical concepts designed to elucidate the interaction of political organisations and groups, his research examines cases of German left-wing and right-wing extremist actors. As a result, the author offers an explanatory approach which might apply to other forms of cross-faction political cooperation, too.
