Summary
Giving interviews about moral subjects is not simply a specific way of conveying information but implies a specific way of communicating with the public. In the past, this mostly happened through instructions, individual testimonials or by giving examples of characteristic attitudes that could be realised. Interviews offer the opportunity for a much larger group of people to take a stand, for others to be encouraged to reflect and think for themselves, and for one's own opinion to be fed into public communication.
Nevertheless, the person that is giving an interview may explain their point of view as a representative of their particular profession and may also try to give answers and explain things according to their individual faith and convictions. Interviews about moral subjects also explain a lot about the person that is being asked and the way they look upon particular problems. They also represent particular subjects and indicate a certain way of debating about death and dying, about medical progress and achievements and the way they are realised, about relations and institutions, the development of law and the chances of reconciliation. In this book, the development and dynamic of moral discussions in society are reflected on, as is the role theological ethics plays in this context.
