Summary

Führung (leadership) ist eine erlernbare Kunst, die über Management und Befehlsgewalt weit hinausgeht. Dieser englischsprachige Band behandelt u.a. die Fragen, was (gute) Führungsqualitäten sind, warum wir sie in Politik, Wirtschaft, Gesellschaft und Verwaltung brauchen, wo und wie sie gelernt werden können. Er umfasst die Verbindung von Führung und Ethik, Führung innerhalb und gegen Eliten und Dialog als Führungsinstrument. Die Fallstudien befassen sich mit sozialem Unternehmertum, Universitätsreform und Entwicklungszusammenarbeit. Besondere Aufmerksamkeit kommt deutschen Erfahrungen und ihren geschichtlichen Wurzeln zu. Zum ersten Mal wird ein umfassender Überblick über die Ausbildung von Führungskräften in Deutschland und ihrer Entwicklung in Politik und internationalen Organisationen gegeben. Dabei werden auch die vier neuen Public Policy Schools in Deutschland vorgestellt.

Neben Absolventen des McCloy-Programms, viele inzwischen Führungskräfte in Privatwirtschaft und öffentlichem Sektor, haben die Harvard-Professoren Joseph Nye und Barbara Kellerman Beiträge verfasst, ebenso Gesine Schwan, Michael Zürn und Karl-Rudolf Korte. Mit einem Vorwort von Kurt Biedenkopf.
