Zusammenfassung

Das Buch stellt die Ergebnisse einer empirischen Langzeituntersuchung vor, die die europäische und US-amerikanische Medienberichterstattung über humanitäre und militärische Interventionen zwischen 1990 und 2005 untersucht.

Die Autorin analysiert, ob und wenn ja, inwieweit internationale Rechtsnormen zur militärischen Gewaltanwendung eine länderübergreifend geteilte, soziale Geltung in den nationalen Öffentlichkeiten der sechs untersuchten westlichen Ländern (USA, fünf EU-Länder) besitzen.

Das herausragende Ergebnis ist, dass internationale Rechtsnormen ein länderübergreifend verbindendes Medienskript in allen sechs nationalen Öffentlichkeiten darstellen - und das für den gesamten Zeitraum medialer Debatten nach Ende des Kalten Krieges.
