Zusammenfassung

Ein riesiger Korpus von Jain-Texten liegt unerforscht in Manuskriptbibliotheken, einige von ihnen sind Neufassungen früherer Werke. Obwohl die Verbreitung literarischer Neuschöpfungen in Jain-Gemeinschaften auffällig ist, handelt es sich dabei keineswegs um eine exklusive Praxis. Die Südasienwissenschaften haben sich zunehmend mit der kreativen Auseinandersetzung von Autoren mit einem autoritären literarischen Objekt beschäftigt. Obwohl diese Studien wichtige Erkenntnisse hervorgebracht haben, blieben die Jains als literarische Gemeinschaft in diesen Diskussionen außen vor. Der vorliegende Band schließt diese Lücke und beleuchtet die einflussreiche Rolle der Jain-Autoren in der mehrsprachigen literarischen Welt Südasiens.
