Zusammenfassung

Die Bereitstellung von Land für große Industrie- und Infrastrukturprojekte hat sich in den vergangenen Jahren zu einem Schlüsselproblem der indischen Wirtschaft und Gesellschaft entwickelt. Die erbittert ausgeführten, teils gewaltsamen Konflikten um Land und das Scheitern großer Projekte haben die Frage nach der Legitimität der staatlichen Praxis der Landenteignungen aufgeworfen.

Die Arbeit widmet sich der zentralen Institution in diesem Bereich, dem aus der Kolonialzeit stammenden Land Acquisition Act (1894). Dieser ist nach der indischen Unabhängigkeit in Kraft geblieben und wurde im Jahre 2013 durch ein neues Gesetz ersetzt.

Der Fokus der Arbeit liegt auf den historischen Entwicklungen, die zu der Langlebigkeit des Gesetzes beigetragen haben. Zudem wird der politische Prozess, der zu der neuen Gesetzgebung geführt hat, im Detail untersucht.
