Zusammenfassung

Sind religiöse Bürger moralisch darin gerechtfertigt, bei der öffentlichen Diskussion politischer Fragen auf ihre religiösen Überzeugungen zu rekurrieren, oder widersprechen sie damit nicht vielmehr einem Ideal staatsbürgerlicher Tugend in säkularen Demokratien? Diese Frage wird in der normativen politischen Philosophie immer heftiger diskutiert und sorgt auch in der politischen Öffentlichkeit westlicher Demokratien weiterhin für Kontroversen.

„Normativität im Konflikt“ stellt den Versuch dar, diesem religiösen Bürger anhand einer Fallstudie näher zu kommen und die normative Diskussion diesen Befunden entsprechend neu zu formulieren. Dabei wird insbesondere die dort unterstellte Dichotomie zwischen religiösen und säkularen Gründen unter die Lupe genommen und kritisch hinterfragt. Eine normative Bewertung der Angemessenheit öffentlicher Diskussionsbeiträge anhand der Kategorien „religiös“ und „säkular“, so die These, ist angesichts ihres wechselseitigen Ineinandergreifens wenig hilfreich.
