Zusammenfassung

Vertrauen stellt als social lubricant eine der zentralen Ressourcen für die Funktionalität ausdifferenzierter Gesellschaften dar. Innerhalb der verschiedenen Theorieschulen zur Beschreibung dieses Phänomens ergeben sich dabei wiederkehrende begriffliche und konzeptuelle Gemeinsamkeiten. Im Wesentlichen sind dies die übergeordneten Vertrauenskategorien „Zuversicht“ (confidence) und „Vertrauen“ (trust) sowie deren praktische Manifestationen „generalisiertes Vertrauen“ und „partikulares Vertrauen“. Während sich die Paarung confidence/generalisiertes Vertrauen auf generalisierte Andere bezieht (z. B. Fremde), ist das Paar trust/partikulares Vertrauen auf spezifische Andere (z. B. Freunde) bezogen. Im Confidence-Trust-Modell wird diese Koinzidenz zu einer integrativen Vertrauenstheorie synthetisiert.
