Zusammenfassung

Dieses Buch analysiert die bislang vernachlässigte Rolle der gewählten Mitglieder des UN Sicherheitsrates und fragt, welche Rollen Kanada im Sicherheitsrat gespielt hat. In einem innovativen Ansatz werden Rollentheorie und interpretative Prozessanalyse kombiniert. Mittels einer qualitativen Inhaltsanalyse von Reden, Regierungsdokumenten und Interviews mit Diplomat:innen werden zentrale Leitmotive, Argumentationslinien und Selbstpräsentationsmuster der jüngsten kanadischen Amtszeiten und Wahlkampagnen isoliert. Dabei werden (Wahl-)Strategien und Einflussmöglichkeiten gewählter Mitglieder am kanadischen Beispiel illustriert. Konkret agierte Kanada als Multilateralist, Reformierer, Peacekeeper, Mediator, Wohltäter, Förderer von Menschrechten, und aktivistischer Anführer.
