Zusammenfassung

Soziale Auseinandersetzungen um Geschlechternormen durchziehen muslimisch geprägte Gesellschaften – von feministischen über traditionalistische bis hin zu islamistischen Strömungen. Dieses Buch untersucht erstmals, wie solche Diskurse nicht nur Identität und soziale Ordnung strukturieren, sondern auch von Akteuren wie dem sogenannten Islamischen Staat in seiner geschlechtsspezifischen Propaganda instrumentalisiert werden. Anhand von Fallstudien zu Marokko, Ägypten und Indonesien wird gezeigt, wie zentrale Themen – etwa frühe Eheschließungen, männliche Autorität oder Polygynie – von diversen Akteuren verhandelt und zugleich vom IS aufgegriffen werden. So entsteht ein neues Verständnis für die diskursive Anziehungskraft extremistischer Bewegungen.
