Zusammenfassung

Der Band untersucht postimperiale Staatsbildungsprozesse in ehemals osmanischen Provinzen und rückt anstelle eines Bruchs nach 1918 die Bedeutung osmanischer Kontinuitäten in Verwaltung, Recht und Politik in den Fokus. Anhand von Beispielen wie Syrien, Irak, Ägypten und der Türkei analysieren Fallstudien Grenzkonflikte, außenpolitische Strategien und regionale Ordnungsvorstellungen im 20. und 21. Jahrhundert. Mit makro- und mikrohistorischen Ansätzen sowie transnationalen und lokalen Perspektiven leistet der Band eine kritische Revision nationalistischer Narrative und eröffnet neue Einsichten in die langfristigen politischen Spannungen der Region.
