Since the Federal Constitutional Court lifted the ban on the organised promotion of suicide in Germany, a comprehensive and multi-perspective discourse on assisted suicide has emerged. The German Ethics Council has discussed the right to suicide and the phenomenology of the desire to die and suicide in two separate sessions. Anna Katharina Kiemer's research focuses on the transcripts of these Ethics Council meetings. By means of a system-theoretical semantic analysis of the legal, medical and ethical points of reference, the author demonstrates the potential of a synchronous thematization of the divergent perspectives and their contingency management strategies.
