Summary
Angesichts der globalen Vielgestaltigkeit von Religion stellt sich die Frage nach den Gründen für diese unterschiedlichen Ausformungen. Das Handbuch versammelt Beiträge, die Religion(en) in ihrer Vielfalt, ihren sozialen Konfigurationen und Wandlungsdynamiken kontextualisieren. Damit wird gezeigt, wie sich Religion in gesellschaftlicher, struktureller, institutioneller, praktischer und überzeugungsbezogener Perspektive ausformt. Als Kontexte werden Ordnungen wie diejenige des Geschlechts, des Alltags, der Ökonomie, Institutionen der Staatlichkeit und des Rechts oder auch Dynamiken wie sie durch Minderheitenrelationen, gesellschaftliche Transformationen und Modernisierungen verursacht werden, eingeführt. Die Beiträge zeigen anhand empirischer Beispiele Mechanismen, durch die Religionen jeweils gesellschaftsgeschichtlich geformt, sichtbar gemacht und verwirklicht werden. Der Band richtet sich an alle, die mehr darüber wissen wollen, wie Religion(en) in verschiedene Gesellschaften und deren Veränderungen eingebettet sind.
