The author revisits Alice Salomon’s contributions to social work theory, shedding light on an overlooked perspective in the discipline's history. The focus is on which epistemological assumptions from this historically female-dominated profession continue to influence contemporary social work theory. Through a hermeneutic analysis, Salomon’s theoretical reflections are compared with established approaches. The findings demonstrate their high relevance to current academic debates, thereby justifying her classification as a ‘forgotten classic’ of social work. This title is also available as Open Access.
