Summary
Worauf begründet sich die Unterstützung oder Ablehnung der Europäischen Union durch die Bürger Mittel- und Osteuropas? Da die EU ein komplexes und insbesondere von der Lebenswelt neuer EU-Bürger weit entferntes politisches System darstellt, ist es unwahrscheinlich, dass eine Einschätzung dieses Systems alleine auf Einstellungen zur EU beruht.
Dieses Buch identifiziert und analysiert den Meinungsbildungsprozess, der bei mittel- und osteuropäischen EU-Bürgern zur Unterstützung oder Ablehnung der EU führt. Unter Berücksichtigung der traditionellen EU-Unterstützungsforschung sowie kognitionspsychologischer Erkenntnisse wird ein theoretisches Modell entwickelt, das anschließend anhand von Umfragedaten empirisch überprüft wird. Die Ergebnisse zeigen, dass die Bürger Heuristiken nutzen, wenn sie die EU bewerten müssen - d.h., sie nutzen bereits vorhandene Einstellungen zum eigenen, ihnen besser vertrauten politischen System, dem Nationalstaat, um Einstellungen zur EU zu generieren.
