Summary

Psychological and social orientation needs that arise from the encounter of different cultures are dealt with in peace education dialogue mainly in a communicative way, sometimes also in an action-theoretical or praxeological way. While linguistic patterns often fail due to language barriers, images can enable inter-cultural understanding by depicting individual experiences as a form of expression of the foreign and the other. Heike Jansen examines the everyday and therapeutic function of images. In doing so, the author reflects on the themes of culture, interculturality, identity and trauma in the context of peace education and shows how identity is evoked and articulated through art and art therapy.
