Summary

Im kommunistischen Europa gab es 38 subnationale territoriale Einheiten. Fast überall führte die Renaissance des Nationalismus im spät- und postkommunistischen Europa zur Konfrontation zwischen den nationalen Vereinheitlichungsbestrebungen der Titularethnien der alten und neuen Nationalstaaten und den national autonomistischen, föderalistischen und Unabhängigkeitsbestrebungen der größeren ethnischen Minderheiten. Die größeren Territorien mit einer mehrheitsbildenden Titularethnie strebten nach staatlicher Unabhängigkeit, die ihnen die internationale Staatengemeinschaft verweigert. In einigen Fällen wurde eine De-facto-Staatlichkeit errungen. In anderen Fällen wurde die vorherige Autonomie beseitigt. In jüngster Zeit werden in Russland die kleineren national-territorialen Gebilde aufgelöst. Umgekehrt entstanden jedoch im postkommunistischen Europa auch einige neue national-territoriale Gebilde.

Im vorliegenden Band werden 15 nationale Territorien unterschiedlichen Typs unter der leitenden Fragestellung des Gesamtwerkes nach dem Verhältnis von Ethno- und Staatsnationalismus und seinen Auswirkungen auf die Gewaltneigung und Demokratieentfaltung oder -behinderung in der Umbruchszeit von 1985-1995 näher untersucht.
