Summary
Zwischen den Gesundheitssystemen in den USA und in Deutschland existieren große Unterschiede. Dabei bemühen sich beide Länder, die Qualität der Patientenversorgung weiter zu verbessern und gleichzeitig die steigenden Kosten in den Griff zu bekommen. Wie erfolgreich sind diese Systeme? Worin unterscheiden sich Qualität und Kosten? Was können wir voneinander lernen? Für die chronischen Erkrankungen Diabetes, Bluthochdruck und Fettstoffwechselstörungen erlaubt die vorliegende Untersuchung ? ausgehend von Hunderttausenden an Abrechnungsdaten diesseits und jenseits des Atlantiks ? erstmals einen Vergleich der Behandlungsmuster und -ergebnisse.
Wie sich zeigt, sind die Behandlungskosten in den USA in allen Bereichen der Versorgung erheblich höher. In den USA wird teilweise konsequenter medikamentös behandelt. Zugleich tritt Diabetes in den USA bereits häufiger in jungen Altersgruppen auf, möglicherweise ein Ausblick auf eine zukünftige Entwicklung hierzulande, der es mit allen Möglichkeiten der Prävention zu begegnen gälte.
Die Autoren sind international renommierte Professoren und Wissenschaftler mit langjähriger Erfahrung auf dem Gebiet der Versorgungsforschung.
