Summary
This volume contains fifteen contributions in German and English on representations of Istanbul in Turkish and German-Turkish literature by Turcologists and scholars in literary studies. The works covered range from nostalgic or glorifying memories of the past, the architectural and urban transformation of the city with its downsides, to indifference and repulsion. In some cases Istanbul also functions merely as a backdrop for ideological messages or entertainment purposes. The contributions deal with prose and poetry in Turkish and German and examine the topics, functions and developments of the representations of Istanbul.
