Summary

"The New Germany" gibt einen ausgewählten Überblick über die Nachkriegsgeschichte (1945-2010), das Wirtschafts- und Sozialsystem, das politische System und die Außenbeziehungen der Bundesrepublik Deutschland von heute. Es verbindet dabei die Darstellung der jeweiligen Institutionen und Politiken mit Grundsatzdiskussionen zur Sozial- und Wirtschaftspolitik wie auch zum Demokratiebegriff und zur Frage guten Regierens. Bei den Außenbeziehungen wird ausführlich sowohl auf die wichtigsten Politikfelder (Außen-, Sicherheits-, Europa- und Entwicklungspolitik) als auch auf die Beziehungen zu den Nachbarn (Frankreich, Polen) und den USA und Russland eingegangen.

Das Buch dient als einführender Überblick; es bietet Fakten, Graphiken, Statistiken und Fotos zu den jeweiligen Themen und diskutiert auch die jeweiligen politischen Probleme. Es ist für ein englischsprachiges bzw. außerdeutsches Publikum aus Universität, Politik und Medien aufbereitet und kann auch als Lehrbuch insbesondere für German Studies, Vergleichende Politikwissenschaft und Internationale Beziehungen/Außenpolitik eingesetzt werden.
