Summary
The volume offers a reflection on the feminine in Presocratic thought, with particular attention to Parmenides and the philosophical tradition between the sixth and fifth centuries BCE. The collected essays address, from different perspectives, themes related to cosmology, ancient medicine, reproductive biology, myth, and the construction of knowledge. The female figures of the Parmenidean poem, Hippocratic medical thought, the pluralists and the sophists, the feminine as a cosmological principle, and the symbolic function of goddesses reveal the theoretical complexity of a category that traverses philosophy, religion, and natural knowledge, offering new perspectives on the role of the feminine in the development of ancient thought.
