Summary

Immanuel Kant (1724–1804) had a formative influence on philosophy and the entire history of ideas through his work. He is famous for his critical philosophy, which aims to establish philosophy as science. In fact, however, it is Kant's real ambition to establish philosophy as a science that opens the door to wisdom. Common sense seeks knowledge of the world, enlightened thinking seeks worldly wisdom. For worldly wisdom is not just learning and reflecting on what has been thought beforehand, but critical and thorough self-thinking that pursues a purpose: Unanimity of life, i.e. coming more and more into harmony with oneself.
