Summary

Jobseekers are to be better integrated into society through holistic support – at least that is the promise of Section 16k, SGB II, which was passed as part of the reform of the welfare state. The goals and tasks of the new approach seem to have called for a new field of action in professional social work: for the first time, the focus has shifted away from pure job placement and is now exclusively on the personal life situation. Sabine Giese examines the potential and limitations of the new paragraph and analyses whether holistic support is actually suitable as an adequate means of social integration for those who are able to work from the perspective of the social work profession.
