Summary
Ziel dieses Bandes ist es, den Wandel in Deutschland und Irland sowie in den deutsch-irischen Beziehungen im Verlauf der letzten zwanzig Jahre zu erfassen. 1989 wurde die Bundesrepublik Deutschland vierzig Jahre alt. Im gleichen Jahr fiel die Berliner Mauer und damit auch der "Eiserne Vorhang". Das Jahr 1989 erlebte Irland als eine Zeit großer Arbeitslosigkeit und schlechter wirtschaftlicher Leistung. Innerhalb weniger Jahren kam es jedoch zu einer Veränderung, die beispiellosen Wandel wirtschaftlicher und gesellschaftlicher Art mit sich brachte. Symbolisch betrachtet fielen also auch in Irland einige Mauern und machten somit den Weg frei für einen besseren Lebensstandard für viele, für ein neues Selbstvertrauen und eine größere Offenheit und Toleranz gegenüber dem "Anderen" in einer Gesellschaft, die bis dahin überwiegend monokulturell geprägt war.
Dieses Buch erfasst, analysiert, diskutiert und "feiert" im Wesentlichen die Transition und den Wandel in Irland, in Deutschland und in den deutsch-irischen Beziehungen innerhalb des sehr bedeutsamen Zeitabschnitts der letzten zwanzig Jahre.
