Summary

How can postcolonial theory contribute to a practice that is sensitive to difference and critical of power and domination? Daniel Nacht explores the relevance of postcolonial theory to the academic analysis of social work in the context of domination and oppression, and examines the ways in which difference is created and maintained in social contexts. A particular focus is on racism and sexism and their emergence and impact in the context of the global economy and international division of labour. The author stresses the need to develop an awareness of colonial patterns and to challenge (our own) Eurocentric narratives.
