Summary

In a policy analysis, the author examines the emergence of the policy field of politics with history in the field of tension between coming to terms with the past, remembrance, culture and German politics. She comes to the conclusion that it is only from the beginning of the 1990s, with the start of the reappraisal of the SED dictatorship, that one can speak of politics with history as an independent policy field. In the second part of the work, the author uses the federal government's memorial concept as a case study in order to work out lines of development, actor constellations and future issues in the policy field. The work thus provides valuable insights for political science and contemporary history and related institutions.
