Summary
Weltweit gewinnt die Pfingstbewegung immer mehr Anhänger – so auch in Südafrika. Die vorliegende Studie untersucht die Einstellungen der Mitglieder der neuen Pfingstkirchen, von Charismatikern und Wiedergeborenen zu Gesellschaft, Wirtschaft und Politik im Post-Apartheid-Südafrika sowie ihre Religiosität, ihr religiöses Selbstverständnis und ihr soziales Engagement. Dazu wurden Interviews mit Kirchenführern, eine landesweite Repräsentativbefragung – um auch einen Vergleich mit Mitgliedern anderer Kirchen zu ermöglichen –, sowie eine zusätzliche Befragung mit identischen Fragen unter Mitgliedern einer prototypischen neuen charismatischen Kirche in Soweto durchgeführt. Geprägt durch die Erfahrungen der Apartheid zeigen sich die Mitglieder der neuen Pfingstkirchen in Südafrika als demokratischer und der politischen Führung kritischer eingestellt als in anderen Ländern. Oft übernehmen die neuen Pfingstkirchen staatliche Aufgaben, dienen als soziales und wirtschaftliches Netzwerk für ihre aufstiegsorientierten Mitglieder, sehen sich aber gleichzeitig stark in der sozialen Verantwortung. Sie können eine wichtige Rolle beim weiteren Versöhnungsprozess in Südafrika spielen.
