Zusammenfassung
Seestreitkräfte sind dazu da, die Meere und Seewege zu kontrollieren und damit Macht und Einfluss zu demonstrieren, oft unter Einsatz von Gewalt. Dies umfasst jedoch nicht alles. Seestreitkräfte haben stets einen Großteil ihrer Zeit und Ressourcen für Operationen aufgewendet, die nicht unter die traditionelle Definition von Seemacht fallen. Diese nicht-traditionellen Aktivitäten haben mitunter weit mehr zu Sicherheit und Wohlstand ihrer jeweiligen Nationen beigetragen als kinetische Aktionen, werden aber weit weniger beachtet als zum Beispiel Gefechte auf See oder der Beschuss von Stellungen an Land.
