Zusammenfassung

Dass gefühlte Nationalität ein konstruiertes Phänomen ist, wurde spätestens in den 80er Jahren mit Benedict Anderson’s Konzept der „Imagined Communities“ populäres Gedankengut. Gleichzeitig ist es nach wie vor salonfähig, politische Interessen unter Berufung auf eine vermeintlich apolitische Volksgemeinschaft zu legitimieren. Mehr noch, mit dem aktuellen Erstarken populistischer Bewegungen in Europa, erlebt die Idee geradezu einen dritten Frühling.

Warum die nationale Identität ihre Popularität nicht verliert und wie sich in dieser Konstruktion politische Interessen abbilden, diesen Fragen geht die Autorin in ihrer Betrachtung der ideologischen Wirrungen und ihren Grundlagen in den ersten zehn Jahren nach der namibischen Staatsgründung nach.
