Zusammenfassung

Die zweite UN Conference on Human Rights, die 1993 in Wien stattfand, und bei der mit der Wiener Erklärung und dem Aktionsprogramm (VDPA) ein Bekenntnis zur Universalität und Unteilbarkeit der Menschenrechte formuliert wurde, stellte einen Meilenstein in Entwicklung und Schutz der Menschenrechte dar. Drei Jahrzehnte später steht dieses Bekenntnis weltweit unter Druck. Autoritarismus, radikale Ideologien, eine zunehmende Zahl an bewaffneten Konflikten und sich vertiefende sozioökonomische Ungleichheiten bedrohen Menschenrechte weltweit. Anlässlich des 30. Jahrestags der UN Conference on Human Rights bietet das vorliegende Buch eine Reflexion über Relevanz und Zukunft der VDPA und enthält:eine fundierte Analyse der Errungenschaften und Rückschläge seit 1993,Einblicke in regionale und internationale Menschenrechtssysteme,vertiefende Betrachtungen zum Schutz von Minderheiten, Geflüchteten, Frauen, Kindern, LGBTQI+ Personen sowie weiteren vulnerablen Gruppen,regionale Perspektiven aus Europa, Amerika, Afrika und Südostasien sowieeinen Überblick über die Rolle von Ombudsstellen und Zivilgesellschaften sowie neuen Konzepten wie dem Recht auf Wissenschaft. Der vorliegende 4. Band der Schriftenreihe „Menschen.Rechte!“ des Ludwig Boltzmann Instituts für Grund- und Menschenrechte thematisiert damit die Notwendigkeit, Menschenrechte fest innerhalb der Gesellschaften zu verankern und erörtert, wieso die Zukunft des Schutzes der Menschenrechte stark davon abhängt, demokratische Institutionen zu stärken, Menschenrechtskulturen zu fördern und eine sinnvolle Teilhabe auf regionaler, nationaler und globaler Ebenen sicherzustellen. Dogmatisch fundiert und zugleich praxisorientiert bietet dieses Buch in einer Zeit des Wandels und der Auseinandersetzung wertvolle Einblicke in die Herausforderungen und Lösungsansätze zum Schutz der Menschenrechte.
