Zusammenfassung

Fragile und scheiternde Staaten werden heute sowohl in wissenschaftlichen als auch in medialen und politischen Diskursen als Rückzugsorte von Terroristen und damit als globales Sicherheitsrisiko behandelt. Die meisten der so benannten Staaten finden sich auf dem afrikanischen Kontinent. Innerhalb dieses Diskurses wird gerade den Staaten Afrikas oftmals Staatlichkeit gänzlich abgesprochen oder die internen staatlichen Akteure werden ausschließlich als korrupt und kriminell dargestellt.

Mit diesem Buch legt Anna Krämer eine kritische, genealogische Rekonstruktion hegemonialer Repräsentationen von Staatlichkeit im euro-westlichen Diskurs über Afrika vor. Indem hier der kontemporäre, politikwissenschaftliche Diskurs über Staat in Afrika dem Feld historischer (kolonialer) Repräsentationen afrikanischer Staaten aus dem 18. / 19. Jahrhundert gegenüber-gestellt wird, werden weiterhin wirksame Machtverhältnisse aufgedeckt und einer kritischen Reflexion unterzogen. Damit leistet das Buch einen Beitrag zu einer postkolonialen Konzeptualisierung von Staatlichkeit im afrikanischen Kontext.
