Zusammenfassung

Das Buch liefert einen wichtigen Beitrag zur aktuellen Debatte über soziales Vertrauen in multikulturellen Gesellschaften. Anstatt die Analyse auf das generalisierte soziale Vertrauen zu beschränken, legt diese Studie einen systematischen empirischen Vergleich des Einflusses ethnischer Diversität auf unterschiedliche Formen von Vertrauen vor. In Anlehnung an sozialpsychologische Intergruppentheorien sowie neue Beiträge zur theoretischen wie empirischen Ausdifferenzierung des Konzeptes des sozialen Vertrauens werden das partikulare und generalisierte Vertrauen sowie das identitätsbasierte und das kontextsensitive Vertrauen in die Nachbarschaft unterschieden. Die vergleichenden Analysen zeigen, dass der empirische Zusammenhang zwischen ethnischer Diversität und sozialem Vertrauen je nach Art der ethnisch-kulturellen Diversität sowie der betrachteten Form sozialen Vertrauens beträchtlich variieren kann.
