Zusammenfassung

Die Beiträge dieses Bandes untersuchen, wie Kultur im Kontext von Religion übersetzt wird. Die literaturwissenschaftlichen, historischen und linguistischen Studien zeigen, wie unterschiedliche kulturelle Traditionen und Sprachen über Grenzen hinweg kommuniziert werden. Die Aufsätze widmen sich dem missionarischen Feld des frühen Mittelalters und kolonialisierten Kulturen von Lateinamerika, Indien, China, Afrika und Australien vom 16. bis zum frühen 20. Jahrhundert. Des Weiteren werden literarische Werke in Hinsicht darauf untersucht, wie sie Kultur übertragen und übersetzen: zum einen ein christliches Theaterstück im islamischen Kontext und zum anderen ein haitianisch-nordamerikanischer Diaspora-Roman. Ein weiterer Beitrag diskutiert, wie das Konzept von Religion selbst im akademischen Bereich erklärt und übertragen wird.
