Summary

Who was responsible for the thousands of murders of people with psychological, mental or physical impairments under National Socialism? How were institutions and actors interconnected?The mental hospitals play a central role as crime scenes within the framework of Nazi "euthanasia: Health personnel killed there by administering medication, neglect, and deprivation of food; in addition, transports to the „euthanasia“ facilities were handled by the state institutions. Using the example of Central and Upper Franconia, this volume sheds light on the institutional network of the medical institutions and the different interests of the decision-makers between medical aid, economic interests, and ideologically convinced complicity in the National Socialist murders of the sick.
