Summary

This paper analyses the implementation of international labour standards in transnational corporations (TNCs) from so-called emerging economies through the instrument of Global Framework Agreements (GFAs). The number of GFAs has steadily increased since the 1990s, with the majority being concluded with European TNCs. In view of the growing importance of TNCs from so-called emerging economies, the extent to which GFAs can contribute to the global implementation of international labour standards is explored. Based on this, this paper uses a case study to examine the question of how GFA processes take place within a TNC from a so-called emerging economy.
