Summary

Europe is no longer able to recognize itself because it is looking into a mirror – the EU – that was built by itself, but which reflects a deformed image of itself. As a global player, the EU distorts its internal relationship with the economic policy distinction between winners and losers. Müller-Pelzer counters this with the reality of a Europe that opens up as the affective space of a pre-reflective, corporeal subjectivity. As an example, the MONTAIGNE program shows how this Europe affects Europeans with emotional atmospheres through phenomenologically guided immersion in an unknown European "brother language" (Trabant) by settling into "implanting situations" (Schmitz).
