If in the 1980s the multicultural society was considered largely an emancipatory project, then today it provokes fears of authoritarian milieu structures which are primarily associated with Islam. Heiner Bielefeldt develops a concept of enlightened multiculturalism, the foundations and the limits of which are located in human rights. According to this concept, he analyzes the current controversies around the hijab, religious education, forced marriages, citizenship tests and the integration of Islamic minorities.This book is conceived of as a contribution to the contemporary debate in Germany around integration.
