Summary

“Transformation EAST. Lives in Transition” is the companion volume to the eponymous exhibition produced by the Federal Foundation for the Study of the Communist Dictatorship in East Germany and the Federal Government’s Commissioner for the New States. The book presents texts written by Berlin historian and publicist Stefan Wolle as well as 128 contemporary photos taken by renowned photographers. Supplemented by infographics examining the economic and societal developments since 1990, which were provided by the online portal Statista, and by contemporary witness videos (recorded by NDR and accessible via QR codes), the volume shines a spotlight on everyday life during reunification, especially in former East Germany.
